ASHCOMBE

[Description(s) from The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland (1868)]

"ASHCOMBE, a parish in the hundred of Exminster, in the county of Devon, 3 miles to the E. of Chadleigh. Dawlish is its post town. The living is a rectory * in the diocese of Exeter, value £222, in the patronage of the lord chancellor. The church, which was partly rebuilt in 1825, is in the form of a cross, and contains a stone font and a handsome stained window. There is a free school, endowed by Robert Moalle in 1802, with £3 per annum."
