This is the Last Will and Testament of me Thomas Greenslade
Escott of Bampton in the County of Devon, Blacksmith. I give and
devise One that my two dwelling houses with the shop, orchard and
appurtenances thereunto adjoining and garden situate in Back Street
in the Town and Parish of Bampton aforesaid unto my wife Mary Ann
and her assigns for her life or until she shall marry again and
from and after her death or marriage which shall first happen I
give and devise the same unto my son John Escott and his assigns
for his life but subject nevertheless to and charged with the
payment of the annual sum of four pounds sterling to such of his
brothers and sisters namely Mary Ann, Harriet, Jane, Thomas, Eliza,
Samuel, Charlotte and Sarah Ann as shall be living at the death of
my said wife such yearly rent or sum of four pounds to be equally
divided in between them or such of them as shall be living at the
time of payment during the life of my said son John the first
payment of such annual sum respectively to be made at the
expiration of six calendar months from the time of the decease of
my said wife and from and after the decease of my son John. I give
and devise the same dwelling houses and hereditaments unto and to
the use of all and every or such one or more of my said sons and
daughters and children of my son John as shall survive my son John
such said children to be entitled to one share between them and if
more than one of my said sons and daughters shall be living at the
death of my said son John the same to be equally divided between
them as tenants in common after paying out shares to the said
children of my son John and their his or her assigns for ever But
in case neither of them my said sons and daughters shall survive my
said son John then I give and devise the same dwelling houses and
hereditaments unto and to the use of the children of my son Thomas
and their heirs and assigns for ever. I give and bequeath all these
my four dwelling houses and premises with their appurtenances
formerly part of a tenement called North Westerns situate in the
Town and Parish of Dulverton in the County of Somerset unto my said
wife Mary Ann and her assigns for her life or until she shall marry
again and after her death or marriage which shall first happen I
give and devise the same unto all and every or such one or more of
my said sons and daughters Mary Ann, Harriet, Jane, Thomas, Eliza,
Samuel, Charlotte, and Sarah Ann who shall be living at the time of
the decease or marriage of my said wife and if more then one in
equal shares as tenants in common but charged nevertheless with the
principal money accrued thereon by mortgage And as to all the rest
residue and remainder of my estate and effects of what nature or
kind so ever and wheresoever situate I give and bequeath the same
unto my said wife her executors administrators and assigns
absolutely for her and their own absolute use and benefit And I
appoint my said wife Executrix of this my Will and Testament and
hereby revoke all former Wills by me made In witness whereof I have
hereunto set my hand this twenty fourth day of August One thousand

Signed by the said Thomas Greenslade Escott the Testator in the
joint presence of us who at his request in his presence and in the
presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as
witnesses.

Proved at London the 4th day of December 1854 before the Judge by the oath of Mary Ann Escott, Widow the Relict, the sole Executrix to whom Admon was granted having first been sworn by Comm. duly to administer.
