Peculiar of Braunton
Appeared personally Betty Gamon and Jane Gamon Spinsters both of
Braunton named in the last will and testament of Robert Gamon late
of Braunton in the County of Devon Yeoman deceased who died on the
sixth day of March one thousand eight hundred and fifty five and
made oath that they have made diligent search and due enquiry after
and in respect of the Personal Estate and Effects of the said
deceased in order to ascertain the full amount and value thereof
and that to the beast of their knowledge information and belief the
whole of the Goods Chattels and Effects of which the said deceased
died possessed within the peculiar of Braunton exclusive of what
the deceased may have been possesses of or entitled to as a Trustee
for any other person of persons but including the household Estates
for years of the deceased whether absolute of determinable on lives
and without deducting anything on account of the debts due and
owing from the deceased are under the value of Two hundred pounds
to the best of the deponents knowledge information and belief

I Robert Gamon of Braunton in the County of Devon yeoman do make my
last will as follows I give and devise unto my son Thomas Gamon and
his heirs all that field or close of land called or commonly known
by the name of the Little Barton Lane Close being part of a
Tenement called Lampreys situate in or near the Village of Braunton
aforesaid and now in the occupation of George Cousins subject
nevertheless to the payment of one moiety of the Principal money
and Interest which at the time of my decease may be due or owing in
respect of a mortgage lately made by me of the said Tenement called
Lampreys for securing Four hundred and Forty pounds and interest
And I do hereby declare and direct that the said field or close
shall be primarily liable for the payment of the said moiety of the
said principal money and interest and that my said son Thomas Gamon
shall immediately after my decease indemnify my Executrix
hereinafter named against the said moiety of the said principal
money and interest and all subsequent interest to become due on the
same moiety and in default of his so doing I do hereby authorize my
said Executrixes or the survivor of them to sell and dispose of the
said field or close and to apply the proceeds of such sale after
payment of the Expenses attending the same sale in payment and
discharge of the said Moiety of the said mortgage debt paying over
the residue (if any) of the money arising by such sale unto the
said Thomas Gamon his heirs and assigns
I give and devise unto my two daughters Betty Gamon and Jane Gamon
as Tenants in Common in Fee Simple all that field or close of land
called Great Barton Lane Close also all that piece or parcel of
Land situate in Braunton Great Field called the Marsh Also all my
lands in Braunton Down all which said [......] parts and parcels of
the said tenement called Lampreys and are now in the occupation of
George Cousins and others And I hereby charge the said Fields and
Closes pieces or parcels of land heriditaments and premises with
the payment of the remaining moiety of the said Principal money and
Interest I give and devise unto my said daughters Betty Gamon and
Jane Gamon and their heirs the dwelling house outhouses Gardens
Orchards Mow Plot and the Close called Well Close other parts of my
said Tenement called Lampreys situate in Braunton aforesaid To hold
the same unto the said Betty Gamon and Jane Gamon and their Heirs
to the uses and upon the Trusts hereinafter declared (that is to
say) to the use of the said Betty Gamon and Jane Gamon their
Executors Administrators and Assigns for and during the term of
twenty one years for the purposes hereinafter mentioned and after
the expiration or sooner determination of the said term and subject
thereto to the use of my said son Thomas Gamon during his life and
for and immediately after his decease then to the use of Robert
Gamon son of the said Thomas Gamon his heirs and assigns for ever
but if the said Robert Gamon (my grandson) shall happen to die in
the lifetime of his said father without leaving lawful issue him
surviving then to the use of the second son of my said son Thomas
Gamon his heirs and assigns forever Provided always and I do hereby
declare that the said Dwelling house Gardens Orchards Closes and
Premises lastly hereinbefore described shall from the time of the
decease of my said son Thomas be charged with the sum of Ten Pounds
for the benefit of each of the younger children of my said son
Thomas Gamon who shall then be living And I do hereby give the sum
of ten pounds out of the said premises unto each of the said
younger children accordingly and direct the same to be paid within
six calendar months from my said son's decease And whereas I
am possessed of a moiety a Tenement called Gooles Tenement situate
in Braunton aforesaid for the residue of a term of years
determinable on the decease of my daughter Ann Webber and have
insured the life of the said Ann Webber in the York and London
Insurance Company in the sum of one hundred pounds Now I do hereby
give my said moiety of the said Tenement and the said Policy unto
my said daughters the said Betty Gamon and Jane Gamon upon the
Trust hereinafter declared (that is to say) upon Trust to receive
the rents of the said Moiety and thereof in the first place to pay
the annual premium to become due on the said Policy and in the next
place pay the sum of seven pounds per annum by

equal quarterly payments to or apply the same as they the said
Trustees or the survivor of them shall think fit for the
maintenance education or benefit of my Grandson William Gamon son
of my late son William Gamon during his minority The said annuity
to commence on the day of my decease and to determine on the day of
Ann Webber's decease or when the said William Gamon (my
grandson) shall attain the age of twenty one years which shall
first happen and if my said Grandson William Gamon shall die in the
lifetime of my said daughter Ann Webber under the age of twenty one
years then his brother and sister Richard Gamon and Eliza Ann Gamon
or the survivor of them shall take such parts of the said annuity
as the said William would have received if he had lived to the age
of twenty one years And I direct that the said Trustees shall pay
the residue of the said rents unto my said daughter Ann Webber for
her separate use so that her receipt alone notwithstanding
coverture may be a sufficient discharge for the same And I declare
that my said Trustees and the survivor of them her Executors and
Administrators shall stand possessed of the said policy and all
monies bonuses benefits and advantages to be derived therefrom upon
Trust for my grandchildren George Webber, Robert Webber, John
Webber, Jane Webber and Mary Webber children of the said Ann Webber
and my said grandchildren William Gamon, Richard Gamon and Eliza
Ann Gamon share and share alike and I declare that the share of
each of the Grand children shall [......] at the age of twenty one
And in case any one or more of them shall die under that age the
survivor shall take the original as well as accruing share or
shares of the grandchild or grandchildren so dying I direct my
Executrixes hereinafter named to pay the sum of twenty eight pounds
into the Devon and Exeter Savings Bank to accumulate for the
benefit of my Grandchildren Mary Ann Gamon, Elizabeth Gamon, John
Gamon and Fanny Gamon daughters and son of my late son John Gamon
deceased until the twenty fifth day of March one thousand eight
hundred and sixty two when the said sum of Twenty Eight pounds with

Accumulations thereof shall be paid to my said last mentioned
Grandchildren or such of them as shall then be living Provided
always that my said Trustees shall be at liberty to advance the
share of any such Grandchildren for her or his education or
advancement if they shall see any great necessity to so doing
notwithstanding the period of accumulation may not have elapsed And
I declare and direct that the said Betty Gamon and Jane Gamon shall
stand possessed of the dwelling house gardens orchards close and
premises hereinbefore devised to them for the term of twenty one
years upon trust to receive the rents and profits thereof and
thereout[?] In the first place pay and apply the sum of six pounds
per annum unto or for the benefit of my grandson William Gamon
during his minority the said annuity to commence on the day of my
decease and to determine when my said grandson attains the age of
twenty one years And in the next place Upon Trust to retain or pay
and apply the residue of the said rents for or towards payment and
satisfaction of one moiety of the expenses of my Funeral and the
proving of this my will and the said legacy of twenty eight pounds
or of so much of the said Expenses and Legacy respectively as the
rents owing at my decease and my moneys and securities for money
shall be insufficient to pay and after payment of the said annuity
of six pounds and of the said moiety of the Expenses and Legacy and
subject only thereto and to the repayments of any sums which my
said daughters may be obliged to pay in consequence of my having
joined as a security for my said son Thomas Gamon in the Lease of
Harford in Landkey Then upon Trust for my said son during his life
and to attend on the inheritance
I give unto my said son Thomas the following: Books A Bible Prayer
Book and Blairs Sermons I give all my household Goods and Furniture
and other my Personal Estate unto my said daughters Betty Gamon and
Jane Gamon to be equally divided between them as Tenants in Common
and Appoint them Executrixes of this my Will and I hereby revoke
all former Wills by me made

In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this
fourteenth day of August one thousand eight hundred and forty
seven
Signed by the said Robert Gamon the Testator as and for his last
will and testament in the presence of us present at the same time
who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each
other have subscribed our names as witnesses

Codicil
I the above named Robert Gamon do declare this to be a Codicil to
my Will
I revoke the bequest of the sum of twenty eight pounds directed to be paid into the Devon and Exeter Savings Bank and in lieu thereof I direct my Executrixes to stand possessed of the sum of twenty eight pounds upon Trust to apply the same when and as she shall think proper for the benefit of all or any of either of my said grandchildren Mary Ann Gamon, Elizabeth Gamon, John Gamon and Fanny Gamon daughters and son of my late son John Gamon during their her or his minority but in case any part of the said sum shall remain unexpended at the time of the said Fanny Gamon attaining the age of twenty one years then I direct such parts to be equally divided between my said grandchildren and I also direct that such part of the said sum as shall from time to time be unexpended shall bear interest at the rate of three pounds per centum per annum from the day of my decease And I also direct that all monies which I may expend in my lifetime for Wearing Apparel Education and Maintenance or any or either of my said Grandchildren shall be deemed as part payment of the said sum of Twenty Eight pounds
