In the Archidiaconal Court of Barnstaple
Thomas Snell of Chawleigh in the County of Devon yeoman
Executor named in the last Will and Testament of William Snell late
of Chawleigh in the said County and Archdeaconry of Barnstaple,
yeoman who died on the 28th Day of April 1828 make the
Oath and saidth that he has made diligent search and due enquiry
after and in respect of the Personal Estate and Effects of the said
Deceased, in order to ascertain the full amount and value thereof;
and that to the best of his knowledge, information and belief, the
whole of the Goods, Chattels, and Credits, of which the said
Deceased died possessed, (exclusive of what the Deceased may have
possessed of or edtitled to as a Trustee for any other Person or
Persons, and not beneficially, but including the Leasehold Estates
for years of the Deceased, whether absolute or determinable on
Lives, and without deducting any thing on account of the Debts due
and owing from the Deceased), are under the Value of one hundred
pounds

In the Name of God Amen I William Snell of the Old Turnpike gate in
the Parish of Chawley in the County of Devon, yeoman, being of
sound mind, memory and understanding do make this to be my last
will and Testament as follows - - - I give and bequeath unto my son
Robert Snell, the sum of Five Pounds. Unto my daughter Mary Ann
Reed, the sum of one Pound and unto my daughter Grace Reed, one
shilling All which Legacies to be paid by my Executor hereinafter
named at six months after my decease.
I give and devise and bequeath unto my son Thomas Snell All that
Dwelling House Garden and appurtances thereunto belonging called or
commonly known by the name of Old Turnpike Gate House situate and
lying in the Parish of Chawley aforesaid and wherein I now reside
To hold to him his Heirs and Assigns for ever (subject nevertheless
to Mary Woolway&'s residing in the said House six months
after my decease as hereinafter expressed.) I give and bequeath
unto my son William Snell the House and Garden which he now lives
in being part of Butts Tenement situate in Chawley aforesaid with a
right to the well of water divining my right and interest therein
he keeping the same in good repair I also give and bequeath unto my
son John Snell his Executors administrators and assigns the House
and Garden which William Ward the younger now lives in with its
appurtances, being part of Butts Tenement aforesaid with a right to
the well of water during my right and interest therein he keeping
the same in good repair. I also give and bequeath unto my daughter
Mary Reed the House and Garden which Richard Baten now lives in
with its appurtances, being also part of Butts Tenement with a
right to the well of water, during my right and interest therein,
she keeping the same in good repair I also give and bequeath unto
my Housekeeper Mary Woolway the House and Garden which William Ward
the elder now lives in with its appurtances being also part of
Butts Tenement with a right to the well of water during her natural
life if my right and interest so long therein continue and after
her decease I give and bequeath the said Dwelling House and Garden
unto the two sons of the said Mary Woolway called Richard and John
as tenants in common and if only one of them should happen to be
living then to that one solely during my right and interest
therein, she they or he keeping the same in good repair, and it is
my will that each of these Houses shall have an equal proportion of
the outgoings to which they are liable I also give and bequeath
unto the said Mary Woolway my large kitchen Table and Form and the
Bedstead Feather Bead Pillows and Beding and the old copper in my
first upstairs room I also give and bequeath unto the said Mary
Woolway the liberty of residing in the said Dwelling House and to
have the Gardens and appurtances thereunto belonging which I now
reside in and occupy called Old Turnpike Gate House six months
after my decease without paying any rent or outgoings for the same
or be subject to any repairs All my Household Goods Furniture Beds
Beding Plate Books wearing apparel and Implements in Husbandry or
otherwise (except what I have given to Mary Woolway) I do give and
bequeath unto my son John All the rest residue and remainder of my
Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever I do give devise and
bequeath unto my said son Thomas Snell whom I hereby nominate and
appoint sole Executor of this my Will he paying my just debts
Funeral Expenses and proving this my Will and I do hereby make
subject my said Dwelling House Gardens and appurtances which I now
reside in to and with the payment of my just debts in case my
residuary Effects shall be found to be insufficient In Witness
whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and seal this eighth day of
July one thousand eight hundred and twenty three.

testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of
us who have hereunder subscribed our names as witnesses

What is contained in this and the preceding sheet of paper is a
true copy of the last will and testament of the above named William
Snell deceased the same having been carefully examined and compared
with the original this fourth day of October one thousand eight
hundred and twenty eight
