COLATON RALEIGH

[Description(s) from The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland (1868)]

"COLATON RALEIGH, (or Colyton Raleigh), a parish in the hundred of East Budleigh, in the county of Devon, 6 miles S.W. of Ottery St. Mary, its post town, and 11 S.E. of Exeter. It is situated on the river Otter. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Exeter, value £401, in the patronage of the Dean of Exeter. The church, dedicated to St. John the Baptist, is a large Gothic building, with tower. The Independents have a place of worship, and there is a National school for boys. There are some small charities. The trustees of the late Lord Rolls are lords of the manor.
