CORNWORTHY

"CORNWORTHY, a parish in the hundred of Coleridge, in the county of Devon, 4 miles S.E. of Totnes, and 6 N.W. of Dartmouth. Ivybridge is its post town and railway station. It lies between the rivers Harborne and Dart, forming a kind of peninsula, and contains the hamlets of Allaleigh, East Cornworthy, and Tuckenham. In ancient records it is mentioned as a borough, and was the site of an Austin abbey, founded by the lords of Totnes. The living is a vicarage* in the diocese of Exeter, value £210, in the patronage of the trustees of the late Rev. W. Sweetland. The church, dedicated to St. Peter, is a low plain edifice. In the churchyard is a monument to the late vicar, the Rev. C. Barter. There are several large orchards."
