The last Will and Testament of me
William Newman of Dartmouth in the County of Devon Merchant who
being in good Health of Body and of sound and perfect Mind do make
and publish the same this Fifteenth Day of April in the Year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and Eighteen in the manner
following that is to say First I will and direct that all my just
Debts and Funeral Expenses shall be fully paid and discharged Also
I give and bequeath unto my Son Richard Newman the Sum of Eight
thousand pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain to be paid him
within six Calendar Months after my Decease over and above what I
have advanced to or for him and his Wife on his marriage and as I
have made ample provision for my Daughter Susan on her Marriage
with Mr. Cabell Roope by a Settlement made previous to their
Marriage I consider it unnecessary to make any Bequest to her by
this my Will Also I will and direct that on payment of the said Sum
of Eight thousand pounds to my said Son Richard he shall execute
and deliver unto my Son William Newman his Heirs Executors
Administrators or Assigns a good and sufficient Discharge and
Release for all such Sum and Sums of Money as he my said Son
Richard may become entitled to at my Death by virtue of any
Settlement Articles or Deed made previous to or at any Time after
my Marriage to his deceased Mother it being my Will and I hereby
declare it to be my Intention that the said legacy of Eight
thousand pounds shall be considered as a full and compleat
Ademption for all such Sum or Sums Also all my plantations Fishing
Rooms Houses Buildings and Erections in St. Johns Tor Bay Petty
Harbour Cubits Cove and elsewhere on the Island of Newfoundland and
all the Rest and Residue of my Money Security for Money Goods
Chattels and all other my Estate real and personal I give and
bequeath unto my said Son William his Heirs Executors
Administrators or Assigns and I do hereby constitute and appoint my
said son William sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament
hereby revoking all former Wills and Testaments by me at any time
heretofore made In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and
Seal the Day and Year above written William Newman (plus seal)
Signed sealed published and declared by the Testator as and for his
last Will and Testament the Words "my said Son Richard" being first
interlined in the presence of us who have subscribed our names as
Witnesses in his presence and at his request at his request
