This rare book is one in a series of superb Black Guides. Published in 1864, complete with maps, illustrations, and agreeably comprehensive information on many places in Devon as they were in the golden years of Queen Victoria's reign. The book, held as part of the Harvard College (since University) Library Collectio, as a bequest from the estate of Professor Charles Gross in 1910, was produced from a digital copy that can be downloaded from http://books.google.co.uk/books, with a search by either authors or title. Google has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. These books, on which copyright has expired, are available for free educational and research use, both as individual books and as full collections to aid researchers.
