Izacke's book, copies of which are held by WSL, the British Library, the LDS Family History Library, and online in Google Books, provides what are in effect partial, though in many cases quite lengthy, abstracts of over one hundred wills or indentures, concentrating on their charitable provisions. In most cases just the date that a will (or indenture) was written is given and is included in this IZAC index. If in addition the date that a will was proved is given this date is recorded in the Note field. The testator's town or parish, if not given explicitly, is where possible inferred, e.g. from a statement such as "twice mayor of this city [i.e. Exeter]", or from details of property involved in a bequest - in this latter case and the like the uncertainty of the identification is indicated by the use of square brackets and a question mark. The Number given in the Reference field is that assigned by Izacke. (A number of items listed by Izacke merely detail charitable bequests, without giving any indication that they relate to a will or an indenture - for the sake of completeness these are included here.)
