"NYMPTON ST. GEORGE, a parish in the hundred of South Molton, county Devon, 2½ miles S.W. of South Molton, its post town, and 5. N.E. of South Molton Road station on the Taw Vale railway. It is a small agricultural village, situated on the river Mole. The road to Chumleigh passes through the village. The glebe comprises 100 acres. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Exeter, value £310. The church, dedicated to St. George, is a stone structure, with a brick tower containing three bells. The interior of the church contains a font of great antiquity, and several monuments to the Kanlake family. There is a school entirely maintained by the Rev. William Fortescue. Sir T. Dyke Acland, Bart., is lord of the manor and principal landowner. An annual cattle fair is held on the first Wednesday after the 1st July."
