HUXHAM

[Description(s) from The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland (1868)]

"HUXHAM, a parish in the hundred of Wonford, county Devon, 3½ miles N.E. of Exeter. It is situated near the Bristol railway and river Culm. There is a paper-mill in the neighbourhood, and some valuable mines of manganese. The parish is of small extent, and the village wholly agricultural. The soil is partly sandy and partly clay. The tithes have been commuted for a rent-charge of £118. The living is a rectory annexed to that of Poltimore, in the diocese of Exeter."
