Born in Jacobstowe, lived there till 12, apprenticed himself to Rev. John Vickary of Okehampton till 21, after 41/2 years taken ill and returned to his parents who were living in Inwardleigh, he went to Jacobstowe and worked for Mr George Hill by the year, went to · for a year and returned to Mr Hill for a year, a year with Richard Turner in Jacobstowe and then a year in Egg Buckland, returned to Exbourne as a weekly or daily labourer and married there.
