PARKHAM, a scattered village, near the source of the small river
Yeo, 6½ miles S.W. of Bideford, has in its parish 995 souls, and
5808 acres of land, bounded on the north by Barnstaple Bay, and
including the small hamlets of Ash, Horncross, East Goldsworthy,
Buckish Mills, Newhaven, and many scattered farms. The Trustees
of the late Lord Rolle are lords of the manor; but most of the soil
belongs to the Buck, Kekewick, Coffin, Lee, and other families.
Ash Moor was enclosed in 1850. The Church (St.
James,) is a large ancient structure, with a tower and six bells.
The rectory, valued in K.B. at £20. 6s. 8d., and in
1831 at £738, is in the patronage and incumbency of the Rev.

tithes were commuted in 1841, for £730 per annum. In the
parish are three chapels, two belonging to the Wesleyans, and one
to the Bible Christians. The National School was built in 1849-'50.
The Poor's Land is 5A., and the poor have 40s. a year, left
