STOKENHAM

"STOKENHAM, a parish in the hundred of Coleridge, county Devon, 4½miles S.E. of Kingsbridge, and 8 from Dartmouth, its post town. The village, which is large, is situated on Start Bay. The parish includes Chillingham, Beeston, and four other hamlets The living is a vicarage, with the curs, of Chevelstone and Sherford annexed, in the diocese of Exeter, value £625, in the patronage of the crown. The church, dedicated to St. Barnabas, contains an ancient wooden screen. The Independents have a chapel."
